Back to School at Cookie’s Kids!

Who loves Cookie’s Kids? We do!  This “just for kids” department store has it all – from baby items to school uniforms and everything in between. Getting ready for school is fun when you shop the terrific selection online at Cookie’s.  They carry boy’s sizes from infants to young men’s, and girl’s sizes from infants to plus. You’ll find shoes and accessories, such as backpacks, lunchboxes, ties, belts, jewelry, swimwear, hair accessories and more! This department store has the brand names you’re looking for – such as Guess, Nautica, Carter’s, Levi’s, Rocawear, The North Face, Calvin Klein and Apple Bottoms.

Back to school shopping doesn’t have to break the bank, especially when you plan ahead!

 Helpful hints:

Take inventory – go through the closet and see what your child can still wear- if they haven’t  had a growth spurt, they may still fit into some of last years clothes.

Prioritize purchases – make a list of must haves – jeans, shirts, underwear, jackets, hats, gloves, tennis shoes, hoodies, socks, boots, sweatshirts, etc. Prioritize what’s really needed against what you already have. If last years winter coat is too small, then the coat should be at the top of the list.

Set a budget – using a budget provides an opportunity to show kids how to stretch a dollar and helps you choose the best for less and feel in control.

Right now, CookiesKids.com has a terrific 90% off clearance sale. You’ll find lots of great deals for back to school!

Does your school require a uniform? Since 1975, Cookie’s Kid has been known as the #1 School Uniform Specialists in America, offering  a line of school uniforms and providing custom embroidery and screen printing for uniforms in every size – toddler, husky, and plus sizes – all at the lowest prices.

We’d like to help you stay on budget, so we’ve rounded up the best Cookie’s Kids coupons. Just click on a coupon to enter the online store and save!  Also, with any order of $30.00 you get a FREE subscription to Parenting Magazine, and when you refer a friend to CookiesKids.com you’ll both earn $10.00 gift cards!

What is Buy.com?

Great Gift Ideas

Even if you’ve heard of Buy.com you may not really get just how cool this site is. As a customer, you’ll notice a seemingly endless selection of products, amazing prices and great customer service. But how does it work? How can Buy.com offer products at such huge discounts? A simplified answer is that the company has established a win-win solution for both the merchant and buyer. Here’s how it works: if you’re a merchant, you list your products for sale on the site for free. Because it’s free, the savings are passed on to the consumer. This opportunity is open to anyone – if you have a product to sell, you can easily use this online marketplace to post your items for sale.

Scott Blum
Founder of Buy.com

In 1997, founder Scott Blum began Buy.com with computer and electronic sales, and in the first year they sold a record breaking $111 million worth of goods and services. In 2002, the company expanded their products, and in 2006, Buy.com became a marketplace where consumers could buy products from various merchants. Back then, they started with 100 merchants. Today they work with thousands of sellers! In 2010, Buy.com was sold to Japan’s largest e-commerce company, Rakuten, Inc. and with the new owners came a new 45-day product return policy, which replaced the former 30-day policy.

What can you find at one of the world’s largest online marketplaces? Well, maybe not your soul mate or a rocket ship to take you to Venus, but just about everything else. Browsing this site is like walking in the mall on Black Friday. To make it even more fun, be sure to access the site through the portal of a coupon found here, because Coupon Code Roundup has rounded up Buy.com coupon codes for all of your must-have products. Macy’s Memorial Day Coupon Codes

Macy’s kicks off summer with the annual Macy’s Memorial Day sale, which starts Wednesday, May 23rd.  This store wide sale is an annual tradition you don’t want to miss!

In case you don’t know, Macy’s has been around forever – well almost.  In 1858 a very small dry goods store opened in New York City on the corner of 14th  Street and 6th Ave. The store grew, and was responsible for many changes in the early retail industry.  Did you know that Macy’s was the first store to implement the “one price” system? Up to then, the retail prices varied.  After the change, the same item was sold to every customer at the same price. They introduced new and exciting merchandise, such as colored towels, tea bags, the Idaho baked potato. If you like history, Google Macy’s beginnings for a piece of Americana and a visit back in time.

Fast forward to Memorial Day 2012 – there are now over 800 Macy’s stores nationwide. And you can now shop from the convenience of home instead of using gas, time, and energy driving to a store, maneuvering through crowds, and waiting in line at the register.  Macy’s coupon codes found at Coupon Code Roundup can be easily redeemed at Macy’s.com.

What do you need for the upcoming season?  We’ve rounded up a load of Macy’s coupons to help you celebrate summer and save money! There are discounts in every department- too many to list! When you browse through the Macy’s coupons, you’ll find coupons for 50-70% off on clearance Spring Coats, 25-50% off of select Women’s Active Styles, 19.99 Juniors Apparel, $9.99 select Sportswear and a special Memorial Day coupon for savings on select Active Wear styles.

How about a free gift with purchase? There are loads of coupons for token gifts in the women’s fragrance and men’s cologne department. And speaking of free, we have a coupon for you for a free duffel bag with a $50.00 purchase of Tommy Hilfiger fragrance.

To top it all off, browse the coupons to find the bonus Extra 15% off at the Macy’s Memorial Day sale.  When you shop at Macy’s, you’ll find high quality, savings and style. It’s easy to see why this store has been around since the horse and buggy times!

Celebrate Father’s Day and Save

Once again, it’s time to celebrate Dad.   I did a bit of research, and found out that the first Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington June 19th, 1910.  I’m from Washington State, and this information proves that I slept through my high school history class, since this is news to me!

Sonora Smart Dodd invented this special day to celebrate her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart. He was a single parent who raised six children in Spokane.  He had become a widow when his wife died giving birth to their sixth child. Sonora saw the sacrifices her dad had made, as well as being a selfless and courageous man.  She had wanted Father’s Day to coincide with her dad’s birthday June 5th, but apparently there wasn’t enough time to organize the event.

It took awhile before it became a national holiday. President Calvin Collidge, in 1924, supported the idea, and then in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Finally, in 1972, President Richard Nixon signed the law that made it official.

How will you celebrate Father’s Day? A backyard barbeque on Sunday afternoon is fun, or a trip to the beach or county with a car full of snacks, cold drinks and hotdogs to cook on a portable grill. Or maybe Dad just needs to kick back and watch some TV and be waited on!

Men love gifts that reflect their passion for a hobby or activity.  Here are some gift ideas and stores where you can find discounts, coupons and free shipping!

Mother’s Day -Now and Then

Who wouldn't love these?

Sunday, May 13th is the day to honor mothers everywhere.

What’s your favorite Mother’s Day memory?  Back in the 1960’s, it was possible to buy a potted geranium plant for a quarter and put a ribbon around it, and voila – the perfect gift to make mom smile. Today, simple gifts still warm a mother’s heart and just a phone call or greeting card will brighten her day!

Do you ever wonder how traditions get started? Mother’s Day in the U.S.A. began in 1870, but the origin can first be traced back to the ancient Egyptian times when the Goddess Isis was honored. Honoring goddesses and feminine symbols preceded the honoring of the human mother. The maternal objects of adoration were often mythological symbols of deities and religious symbols. The early Greeks had a celebration of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods, a festival that took place around the time of the Vernal Equinox, while other societies celebrated similar deities such as the Earth Goddess and Meter oreie the Mountain Mother.

Early European countries honored the “Mother Church” by decorating the church with jewels, flowers and other offerings. Then, in the 1600’s, a clerical degree in Europe broadened the celebration by honoring mothers, and the holiday fell on the fourth Sunday Lent.

Today, there are over 70 countries that celebrate Mother’s Day, and the majority of countries celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May. It’s the day when your eyes are turned to the maternal figure in your life; your mother, step mom, aunt, grandmother, foster mother or the mother of your children. Whoever it may be, Mother’s Day is the time to remember, thank, and honor her.

An edible greeting from Chocolate.com

Many of our stores at Coupon Code Roundup are offering online specials and discounts just for Mother’s Day. A good place to start shopping is 1-800-Flowers where they offer 20% off right now. Macy’s has a huge Mother’s Day gift sale when you add the promo code provided. Does Mom love chocolate? Visit Chocolate.com for gourmet chocolate or a giant 15 inch cookie that says “Love You, Mom” and save 15% with the new coupon code. Celebrate Mom with a gift basket for GiftBaskets.com and make her day! Keeping it simple? Just call and say you love her – that’s the best gift ever.

Vegetable Gardening – Grow Your Own and Save

Are you thinking about growing vegetables and fruit this year? Even if you’re new at it, it’s easy to get started. The benefits of “growing your own” include providing your family with fresh, nutritious food, saving money at the grocery store and, of course, all that fresh air and exercise! You’ll find lots of gardening information available in books, on the web and at stores such as Gardener’s Supply Company, Gurney’s Seed & Nursery and Home Depot. You’ll need to wait to plant until the last frost. If you plan right, you can reap a bountiful harvest in the summer and fall months and some vegetables even winter well.

To get started, first determine:

  • How much do you want to spend – is it cost effective to do this?
  • Where is the best place for your garden?
  • Where is the most daytime sunlight?
  •  Is there a convenient water source?

Here a a few popular types of vegetable gardens and the advantages of each:

Raised Bed Garden

Raised Bed Garden -Make a raised bed frame using wood, concrete blocks, or rocks. They are generally 3 -4 feet wide and any length or shape. The raised garden is easy to reach (less stooping over), has good drainage, high yields, expanded growing season and easy maintenance. Great for vegetables, herbs, strawberries and more.

Teepee Garden

Teepee Garden- Constructed in a tripod shape by wiring the poles together. Bamboo works great as does as strips of wood for the teepee.  Great for climbing plants, like peas and runner beans (not bush beans). Adds support to tomato vines, good for small spaces, easy maintenance with a high yield.

Container Garden

Container Garden- Ideal for small spaces and suitable for many lifestyles, portable and perfect for the beginner gardener. Use baskets, bushels, barrels and wooden boxes. They do need more watering, as the small containers tend to dry out easily in the summer sun. What you can grow in a  container garden is only limited by your imagination!

Wood Chip Garden

Alternative Wood Chip Garden – Raised beds are filled with a soil made from wood chips, compost and chicken manure. It retains water, needs 30% less watering, requires less weeding and is chemical free. The soil generates heat, which sustains a winter crop of kale. The soil is placed on thick cardboard sheets right on top on the lawn and prevents any breakthrough weeds and grass. Surrounding the beds are pure wood chips, making a nice knee cushion!

Fun Fact: Green beans rank second to tomatoes as a home grown crop!
